Lil Nas X's new single “J-Christ” is a song that uses Christian imagery to represent the struggles of the LGBTQ community. The song compares Lil Nas X to Christ coming back from the dead, to stand up for the LGBTQ community. The artist sees himself as a martyr and has always embraced provocative Christian imagery.
The music video begins with actors impersonating celebrities ascending into heaven, including Barack Obama, Kanye West, Mariah, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and Dolly Parton. In one scene, he is playing basketball against the Devil and wins by making a slam dunk to represent his comeback. In another scene, he is nailed to a cross, wearing a crown of thorns, while people in white cheer for him like they're in a mosh pit at a concert.
The visuals are so eye-bogglingly hallucinogenic that it takes the music a while to catch up. The song was released on January 12, 2024, and will be accompanied by a music video.
