Reason captivates the listener with this easy banger, “Stories I Forgot.”
TDE first announced the signing of Purpose back in August of 2018. Now, two years later, with his second album under the label, New Beginnings, out today, we are seeing the West Coast rapper really settle into his position within the label and his sound.
ScHoolboy came with Habits & Contradictions, Ab-Soul had Control Scheme, Jay Rock dropped 90059, while Kendrick Lamar was Section.80.
It seems, like many of his TDE counterparts, he needed to get one album deep to really grow his sound and find his own artistic spin — there's a theme of the second album among TDE signs to be preferential: Both of these records marked a turning point in the respective careers of the artist, and each still holds up in the respective broader discography of the artist.
We'll have to see if this pattern comes to fruition with Justification as well, but he seems to be in the right direction after first listening to New Beginnings.
Lyrics Snippet
Woah, shit, get the whole clip, knock his face back
Did that to my little homie, it was hard to face that
Had to tell his mom they caught that nigga while they search for me
Now she praying hurt on me, popping pills, too numb to see
Drinking liquor, smoking weed, hoping they don't come for me
Nah, I hope they come for me so I can get some vengeance
